General

What is Nexa Academy?

Nexa Academy provides personalised one-to-one tutoring for KS3, GCSE, A Level, and UCAT students. We combine expert teaching, a clear learning plan, and regular feedback to help each student make measurable academic progress.

Who do you support?

We support secondary-school students from KS3 through A Level, as well as students preparing for the UCAT. Suitability depends on the subject, level, goals, and tutor availability, all of which we discuss during the initial consultation.

How do we get started?

Begin with a free consultation. We will learn about the student's current position, target, preferred schedule, and any immediate concerns. We then recommend an appropriate tutor and outline a starting plan. Request a consultation here.

Lessons & Tutors

Are lessons online or in person?

Our programmes are designed around live online one-to-one tuition. This allows us to match students with the right specialist regardless of location and makes scheduling easier. Any alternative arrangement would be confirmed explicitly during consultation.

How are tutors selected?

We consider subject expertise, teaching ability, communication, reliability, and the needs of the individual student. Matching also takes account of the student's level, exam board, goals, and learning style.

How long is each lesson?

Most lessons last 60 minutes. Some students and programmes may benefit from a different session length, such as a 90-minute UCAT session. We recommend a format based on age, focus, content, and goals.

What happens if the tutor is not the right fit?

Tell us promptly. A strong working relationship matters, and we will listen to the specific concern, review the match, and discuss a practical resolution, which may include adjusting the approach or arranging a different tutor where appropriate.

Programmes

Which subjects and exam boards do you cover?

Coverage depends on current tutor availability. We aim to match students with tutors who understand the relevant subject, level, specification, and exam demands. Please include the subject and exam board in your enquiry so we can confirm the best match.

Can tutoring help with both content and exam technique?

Yes. Lessons can address gaps in subject knowledge, application, written method, timing, command words, and use of mark schemes. The balance changes as the student's understanding and assessment dates develop.

How is UCAT preparation different?

UCAT preparation focuses on repeatable strategies, decision-making, timing, accuracy, and performance under pressure. Students work through all assessed sections with targeted practice and timed review. See the UCAT programme.

Parents & Progress

How will I know whether my child is progressing?

Progress is reviewed against clear learning priorities. Evidence may include improved question accuracy, stronger written work, reduced recurring errors, better timing, greater independence, and assessment outcomes. The appropriate feedback format is agreed when tutoring begins.

Will there be work between lessons?

Where useful, a tutor may set focused practice to consolidate learning or prepare for the next session. Any work should have a clear purpose and fit realistically around school commitments rather than adding volume for its own sake.

How can parents support without creating pressure?

Help protect a consistent routine, ask specific and neutral questions, praise effective process, and let the tutor know about meaningful changes or concerns. Avoid turning every conversation into a score review; confidence grows through visible, repeatable progress.

Booking & Policies

How much does tutoring cost?

Our standard 60-minute online lesson rates are £20 for KS3, £24 for GCSE, and £36 for A Level. We confirm the appropriate programme and any different session arrangement before lessons are booked.

What happens if we need to cancel a lesson?

Cancellation and rescheduling terms are confirmed before tutoring begins and form part of the service agreement. Please give as much notice as possible. For the formal framework, read our Terms of Service.

How do you handle personal information?
